William Byron wins the Daytona 500
#24-William Byron won the Daytona 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Monday. The win is his 1st Daytona 500 win, 2nd win at Daytona and 11th of his career. #48-Alex Bowman finished 2nd followed by #20-Christopher Bell, #7-Corey LaJoie, #23-Bubba Wallace, #16-A.J. Allmendinger, #42-John Hunter Nemechek, #43-Erik Jones, #10-Noah Gragson, and #14-Chase Briscoe.
The race was relatively calm. However, there was a big wreck with 6 laps remaining that involved 23 cars and required a 15 minute red flag for track cleanup. The race ended under caution when #24-Byron took the white flag just before an accident involving #1-Ross Chastain and #2-Austin Cindric. Pole Sitter #22-Joey Logano lead several times throughout the race but was caught in the big accident with 8 laps remaining. He finished 32nd.
Stage Winners
Stage 1: #9-Chase Elliott
Stage 2: #12-Blaney
There were 41 lead changes among 20 drivers and 5 cautions for 18 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 157.178mph.
Perfect Team (per category): William Byron, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, Bubba Wallace, A.J. Allmendinger (#16), Corey LaJoie and John Nemechek for a total of 261 points.
Worst Picks (per category): Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Josh Berry, Michael McDowell, Ryan Preece, Austin Dillon & Carson Hocevar.
Facts: JKR Racing scores the win at Daytona with 233 points. They beat Ya Buddy by 6 points. You have until Thursday to Challenge the points. A reminder to check your driver teams and the points for the first few races to make sure there are no mistakes. If there are, contact me asap.
Also, even though NASCAR shows a 0 beside your drivers name, I give the points per position. There is a 0 because they are not running for Cup points. For example, #16 Allmendinger received 0 points because he’s not running for a Cup Championship. However, it’s the car you are betting on, so that car received 31 position points and 2 stage points = 33 points. Same goes for the #15 car. It received 13 position points.
Bottom of the Barrel: My buddy, F1 Rules. A former Cobo Cup Champ. Sorry Kuj, had to! They scored 93 points – OUCH!
Pole Pool: Daytona 500 pole is not counted in the pole pool. That pool starts this weekend at Atlanta.
