Byron won the Daytona 500
#24-William Byron won the 2025 Daytona 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. The win is his 2nd consecutive Daytona 500 win, 3rd win at Daytona and 14th of his career.
#45-Tyler Reddick finished 2nd followed by #84-Jimmie Johnson, pole sitter #19-Chase Briscoe, #42-John Hunter Nemechek, #48-Alex Bowman, #12-Ryan Blaney, #2-Austin Cindric, #40-Justin Allgaier, and #17-Chris Buescher.
The race ended after the first Overtime attempt. Overtime was set up by an accident with 5 laps remaining. Byron was running 9th at the white flag. Cindric and #11-Denny Hamlin were side by side for the lead on the final lap, but the field bunched up on the backstretch and caused Hamlin and Cindric to lose control. Byron shot to the lead and held off Reddick by .11 second. Despite the accident on the backstretch, NASCAR did not throw the caution and the drivers race to the finish.
After the start was moved up an hour due to the forecast, the race was twice red flagged due to rain, once for 3 hours, 10 minutes and the other for 20 minutes. There were 56 lead changes among 15 drivers and 8 cautions for 47 yellow flag laps. The average speed of the race was: 129.159mph.
