Dillon wins at Daytona
#3-Austin Dillon won the rain delayed Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. The win is his 1st win of the year, 2nd at Daytona International Speedway and 4th career win. Dillon’s win locks him into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
#8-Reddick finished 2nd followed by #2-Cindric, #77-Cassill, #62-Gragson, #51-Ware, #78-McLeod, #19-Truex, Jr., #15-Ragan, and #18-Busch.
Pole sitter #5-Larson feel out of the race early due to engine problems and finished 37th. The race was red flagged for track drying for 3 hours, 19 minutes, 57 seconds with 21 laps remaining. The caution came out when rain hit the track while the race was still green and several drivers spun out due to wet track conditions. 13 drivers we caught in the wreck.
Dillon led the race on the restart with 16 laps remaining, but was passed by Cindric with 15 to go. Dillon retook the lead coming to two laps remaining and held on for the win. Advancing to the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs #9-Elliott, #5-Larson, #22-Logano, #1-Chastain, #4-Harvick, #24-Byron, #8-Reddick, #11-Hamlin, #20-Bell, #18-Busch, #48-Bowman, #99-Suarez, #2-Cindric, #14-Briscoe, #3-Dillon and #12-Blaney.
#12-Blaney was the only driver to make the Playoffs on points. He entered the race 25 points ahead of #19-Truex, Jr. and finished the race 3 points ahead of him after both drivers were involved in accidents.
There were 39 lead changes among 19 drivers and 7 cautions for 30 yellow flag laps.
