Blaney wins at Martinsville
#12-Ryan Blaney won the Xfinity 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The win is his 3rd win of the year, 2nd at Martinsville and 13th career win. #9-Chase Elliott finished 2nd followed by #5-Kyle Larson, #2-Austin Cindric, #11-Denny Hamlin, #24-William Byron, #3-Austin Dillon, #1-Ross Chastain, #6-Brad Keselowski, and #22-Joey Logano.
#12-Blaney ran up front much of the day, took the lead from #9-Chase Elliott with 14 laps to go, and pulled away to win by more than two seconds. #9-Chase Elliott and #5-Kyle Larson each led late in the race as well. Both needed to win to advance to the Championship race. After the race NASCAR ruled that #20-Christopher Bell rode the wall on the final lap and was issued a safety violation. He did not make the champion race because of that.
Pole sitter #19-Martin Truex Jr. had a rough day with a spin and two speeding penalties and finished 24th. Drivers advancing to the Championship race at Phoenix: #12-Ryan Blaney, #24-William Byron, #22-Joey Logano, #45-Tyler Reddick. Drivers eliminated from the playoffs: #5-Kyle Larson, #9-Chase Elliott, #11-Denny Hamlin, #20-Chrissopher Bell. There were 15 lead changes among 7 drivers and 6 cautions for 66 yellow flag laps. The average speed of the race was: 75.677mph.
